Life and Death in Vietnam: Yankee Papa 13, 1965
A helicopter crew chief, James Farley, deals with a jammed machine gun and shouts to his crew, while his wounded pilot lies dying beside him in a chopper over Vietnam. The photo essay by the great war photographer Larry Burrows that apeared in this 1965 issue of LIFE, "One Ride With Yankee Papa 13," remains one of the most powerful portraits of the cost of war ever produced in any medium.
